Alarm Systems
Both homeowners and business owners who have alarm systems are reminded to use them carefully and to help reduce false alarms by providing regular maintenance and user education. When used properly, a security system can provide extra protection to your home or business.
False alarms are costly to our community, both to you as owner of the system and to those who respond to the alarms.
Most false alarms occur because of:
- technical issues with the security system (work with your security alarm service provider to resolve any problems).
- operator error (examples: forgetting to disarm the system, leaving pets to roam into motion sensors, some users not having appropriate instruction of system).
False alarms caused by climatic conditions/severe thunderstorms, utility line mishaps or other conditions clearly beyond the control of the owner, installer, or manufacturer are not included.
The City of Little Canada does not require alarm systems to be registered, however; it does hold businesses and homeowners accountable for false alarms.
The City receives a report once a month from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office indicating false alarms in our city for the prior month. We then notify homeowners and business owners via mail of these occurrences.
Charges for false alarms are based on calendar year. There is no charge for the first two false alarms.
Any questions, please contact the City of Little Canada at 651-766-4029.
